I am a burnt-out technology consultant having worked in the technology industry for 15+ years.

Every job comes with its unique challenges and the will to overcome those challenges is presented through the willingness and drive to work through them to achieve something exceptional.

A burnt-out professional will look for inspiration in different ways, seldom found in lavish spending, eventually revealed in everyday routines.

Figuring out my purpose in life is a tricky and complicated journey

This journey I have taken a few times has always had varying results.

Sure, I have been good at many different things at different times in my life but there was never a reason to consider a massive pivot away from the very thing that was making me money. Maybe that requires a pound of courage which I haven't been able to acquire yet.

Keeping the words of my favorite author in mind, I chugged along to find something I would love to do and in the process make some money.

“Whatever it is you're seeking won't come in the form you're expecting. - Haruki Murakami”

What was I expecting? My unclear mind was seeking answers everywhere and in everything but not within.

The wandering mind only sees what it seeks but not what’s in front

This privileged life built by doing something I don’t know is my true calling allows me to travel the exotic places with rich history.

During one of my travels, I kept staring at the picture of the life of the people in the 70s, the advocates of free life, anti-capitalist, hanging in the Museum of Modern Art. The series of photos showcasing their life, happy life, and celebratory life, caught my attention.

I wonder if it is the free life that I was craving or the fact that the photographer with his camera had breathed life into those pictures for the benefit of lost tourists like me.

I was hooked.

I wanted to experience the feeling of capturing such a feeling myself.

“You can have all the desire and ache inside you want, but what you really need is a concrete starting point. - Haruki Murakami”

Here I go back to the starting point.

Creativity is about expression and I am not good at expressing myself

Expressing myself in any form has not been my strong suit. I thought to myself, I will get something that will allow me to express myself without exposing my true self.

The camera is a unique tool that allows introverts to travel the world without actually meeting anyone yet knowing everything about everyone.

I got one for myself. I got one to hide behind it like a voyeur looking to uncover the mysteries of human emotions in everyday life.

I got to work.

Capturing the history, traditions, and everyday life of people from all over the world and even my own allowed me to experience the world from multiple lenses. Pun intended. Sharing the photographs with people who appreciate it made me feel confident about my vision of life. My new vision of life.

The realization that there is a way to live life without worrying about the popularly stated term work-life balance. Sometimes work and life are at a balance when I am working on things that I truly enjoy.

In the end, the time I spent taking pictures of the world told me more about me than the world. The change in perspective about life brought about a passionate hobby and turning the hobby into a career-changing decision can be life-altering.

“Looking at these photographs, I know that I will never understand the world I live in or fully know the places I’ve been. I’ve learned for sure only what I don’t know—and how much I have to learn. - Anthony Bourdain”

Learning is one thing I enjoy the most.

3 ways I am uncovering the truth of life which was always right in front of me

There is no miracle drug to uncover the learnings of life.

  • Realization & Acceptance
  • Letting the mind wander
  • Believing in the creative expression

The process is not a science but then if I do believe in magic, the science comes later in my attempt to understand the magic.

Not to forget, there will be times when the comfort zone might get too good to step out of but those are the exact times to make the move to chase the truth of life.

To each their own and thus each journey requires a unique process and patience.

So tell me, What is your version of the truth of life?
